Ancient past and future of the region
I recently visited nearby Almendres Cromlech — one of the oldest and most mysterious megalithic complexes in Europe, and no doubt connected to the sacred dolmens on our land.
Arranged in quiet, elliptical patterns across the landscape, its standing stones are believed to have been used for ceremonial, astronomical, and spiritual purposes — aligned with the movements of the sun and seasons.
There is a palpable stillness and power there, as if the site holds a memory of ancient ways of relating to the Earth: slower, attuned, and deeply reverent. Yet I sensed not just history, but a continuity into the future, as if the illusion of time and space were altogether collapsed there, offering a transcendental relationship between human life and the rhythms of creation.
This too is symbolic of Neos, where the ancient past and sacred future merge together. We highly recommend a visit before or after your stay with us.
Neos Development Update
We are entering an important and energising new phase at Neos.
Since arriving last late Spring, our focus has necessarily been on the immediate, practical realities of the land — understanding the property, establishing animal care systems, carrying out essential renovations, and creating a functional base for retreats and guests.
As a result, much of the higher-level work — vision articulation, strategic planning, hiring, and program development — didn’t receive the best of our attention.
In my work, I deeply advocate project development to unfold across three levels: a clearly defined vision, the cultural principles that support it, and the practices that bring it into lived reality. Ideally, these layers are developed in sequence, with strong foundations preceding operational activity.
In our case, once on the land, the process unfolded in reverse. While this accelerated certain aspects of implementation, it also led to periods of overextension, misalignment, and the need to make decisions without a fully established framework. It was everything that we didn’t want — but sometimes the universe sets you up that way regardless!
This also meant that many of the enquiries we received — particularly from those interested in joining the team or becoming future village residents — did not receive the response they deserved.
That phase has now largely stabilised. We have built a functional operational base in a relatively short period, and we are now returning to the deeper strategic work that underpins the long-term integrity of the project.
Our focus now is on refining the vision, clarifying structures, and shaping the next phase of Neos with greater coherence and intention. This includes developing the village offering, defining pathways for future residents, and opening up more clearly structured opportunities for those who feel called to co-create.
For those who reached out previously — and for those discovering Neos now — the best way to connect at this stage is again through joining a Neos Experience Retreat. This allows us to spend valuable time together in person, on the land, to explore alignment in a more grounded and meaningful way as we step into this next chapter.
